SUNDAY SQUADS PREMIER LEAGUE 09

The Sunday Squad Premier League has taken the Sunday Squads by Storm. In June Two teams were created within the Sunday Squad - The Killer Crickets and The Electric Chargers. Both teams competed against each other before and after their net session during the Sunday Squads in a range of drills, challenges and games. The SSPL has now played host to heaps of different and exciting series so come along and get involved. No matter what, everyone's a winner!!!

Week 5, Series 5 - Grand Final : Today goes down as one of the great Sunday Squad challenges and definately the greatest victory I have seen. As it turn out, the Solar Powered Kings were full of regulars and older boys. The Super Cool brothers were much younger and had some new players and not surprisingly were down 2 nil in the throwing contest. From here I guess everyone expected the more experience Solar Power Kings to dominate the rest of the Grand Final. Well, it was the exact opposite. The Super Cool Brothers banded together and dominated just about every challenge bar just one catching contest. The won the next 3 throwing challneges the first catching challenge, got 2nd and 3rd in the next catching challenge. If that wasn't enough they then clean up with toe emphatic victories in the Continous Cricket Test and One Day matches to take out the day 21 - 5. They're catching in the game was a feature and that helped undo any thoughts of the SPK making any kind of comeback. The pressure was just too much batting 2nd and as the little Super Cool Brothers relished rewriting their own version of "David and Goliath" The cheer from the boys at the end of the game underlined that you should always give your best shot because you just never know what can happenin sport. Really, really well done to the new Champs "The Super Cool Brothers"

Week 5 and Series 5 Winners "Super Cool Brothers"

Gapfiller Week before Grand Final - It was decided that the Grand Final would be put back a week in order to let some players who couldn't make last Sunday be available for the Grand Final this coming Sunday (6th Dec). Two teams were created, The Nitromites and the Master Blasters. It was a great battle with the Nitromites taking the day when the game ended up in an exciting Tie.

Week 4, Series 5 - The confident and in form Super Cool Brothers were keen to take the series but the Solar Power Kings had different ideas. Using all the power they could generate from the heat they often came from behind to be eventual winners 13 -5. Next Sunday now becomes a super Grand Final so don't miss out on this one.

Week 4, Series 5 Winners "Solar Powered Kings"

Week 3, Series 5 - The Super Cool Brothers were once again the winners in a slightly different format run by Master Coach Barry Davison. No photo though this week.

Week 2, Series 5 - DOMINANT is the only word for it. As promised, Super Cool Brothers captain Ish inspired his team to a dominant victory to level the series at 1 all. Despite being in an undefeatable position going into the game, it looked as if the SP Kings would earn back some respect by winning the game but it was not to be after a stunning match winning innings right at the end by Ish. The score ended up being 18 - 6 but I wonder if things would have been different if the SPK's has not been without their fielding genius, Izac ??? Certainly set up next week for a beauty !!!

Week 2, Series 5 Winners "Super Cool Brothers"

Week 1, Series 5 - If last week showed that you should never give up, this week proved the importance of fielding in cricket and just one player and his inspriring fielding effort proved to be the difference. In the new series the Solar Powered Kings were guided to victory in a close one by the brilliant fielding of Izac. They would prove too good for the Super Cool Brothers but captain Ish promised to take his leadership to new heights in order to level the series next week.

Gap Filling Week - This week was a gap filling week before a new series starts the following week. One of our gap filling faves Fully Hectacular took on the Nondescripts. FH got off to a very solid start leading 5 nil after the throwing but the Nondescripts were far from done. They came back to win the day in a thriller 11 - 10.

Gap Filler Week Winners "Nondescripts"

Week 5, Series 4 - Victorious Ninjas go all the way guided by a dominant start to proceedings. However, the challenge did get close before the VN got back on track in no uncertain terms to take out not just the game but the series.

Week 5 Winners "Victorious Ninjas"

Week 3, Series 3 - Poweraders take out the day and series !!!

Series 3 Winners "The Poweraders"

Week 6, Series 2 Grand Final - El Magics successfully take out the title 5 - 2 !! Dominant performance lead by Niloy and Christian.

Series 2 Winners "The El Magics"

Week 5, Series 1 Grand Final Result 12.00 (end of session) had closed in and the Test Match went to the Crickets meaning that the score was locked at 7 all. We decided to go into extra time and play a one dayer which the Killer Crickets managed to win in the dying moments of a thrilling game. As is in most forms of the game fielding proved to be the difference. Well done to everyone over the last few weeks. Some of you were here for only a week or two of the challenge and some were here the whole 5 weeks but I think everyone will agree the Killer Crickets and the Electric Chargers had plenty of fun, played in the right spirit and learnt some new skills along the way !!! Now remember to turn up this week with your nomination for new team names. New sides will be chosen for another 3 / 5 week challenge.
