St George DCC Go Back to Back

St George District Cricket Club, proudly sponsored by Kingsgrove Sports Centre, have dominated the Sydney Grade Final to win back to back premierships. They are the first team to do this in 15 seasons.

Kingsgrove Sports Centre Managing Director Harry Solomons is a life member at the club and has been supporting and sponsoring the club for many years. Solomons believes this team is certainly one of the best teams he has seen for many years. "The Sydney grade scene is very strong and with 20 teams in the competition ranging from Campbelltown to Richmond it's pretty rare to win 2 seasons in a row". "Almost every team is filled with current or former NSW and Australian players so the standard is very high". Solomons said "NSW has been producing high quality Australian players from Day One so it gives you an indication of just how strong a nursery the Sydney Grade Competition is". "Makes this achievement all the more pleasing from a sponsors point of knowing your sponsorship dollar is helping to nurture quality players for the future".

Kingsgrove Sports Centre also individually sponsor a number of the players through its own brand of cricket equipment, Kingsports. One of those players Phil Wells played a match winning innings of 71 alongside Peter Wooden whom was also using a Kingsport bat. Wells and Wooden combined at the beginning of Day 2 to put on 98 runs which in the context of the game swung the balance in St George's favour and they never looked back, On Day One the victory was set up by Steven Green, a part time coach at Kingsgrove Cricket Academy, whom returned the remarkable figures of 6-24 off 17 overs to win the Player of the Match award.

Both Green and young up and coming allrounder Trent Copeland both managed to pass 60 wickets for the season. Copeland, with his Kingsport bat scored a valuable 38 whilst the other Kingsport player Steve Cazzulino managed to score 20 hard fought runs at the top of the order against an attack the comprised of Australian star Stuart Clark, Marty Pascal who took 7 wickets in the innings as well as former Sydney Grade player of the Year Ian Moran and State player Greg Mail.

Other notable efforts for the game and season were Saints captain Graeme Rummans, another Kingsgrove Cricket Academy Coach whom in scoring 54 runs took his season tally to an amazing 1024 to win the Sydney Grade Batting aggregate and Kevin Pillay won the dismissals with 51. Green also won the bowling with his 66 wickets.

Solomons, along with his son Hamish, whom is club Captain at St George were at the game all three days and were even seen still celebrating with the players on Monday evening.

Kingsgrove Sports will be proudly back again next season as St George try to create history with a "Three peat".

IMPALA TOP 3 BATS on SPECIAL

2008 OFF SEASON EDITION
v.8.1

GRAY-NICOLLS has received the final draft from the Marylebone Cricket Club regarding the composition of cricket bats. Due to one of the rule changes concerning the handle composition GRAY-NICOLLS will no longer use carbon inserts.

GRAY-NICOLLS has quickly responded to the rule change by developing the FUSION 2. Most of its predecessor’s best attributes will continue – like its light and powerful English Willow, massive edges, maximum blade profile and ability to clear boundaries with ease – but it will now be fused with a NEW Anti-Vibration cane handle for ultimate handling.

Please note that all existing FUSION cricket bats with a carbon or carbon/cane fused handle can be sold until October 2009 and used for the rest of the bat’s natural life.

Finally, GRAY-NICOLLS and Kingsgrove Sports would like to wish three recently retired GRAY-NICOLLS cricketers, Darren Lehmann, Brad Hogg and Matthew Elliott, all the best with life after cricket and congratulations on three wonderful cricket careers.

JULY NEWS from GN
Shaun Marsh has broken into the ODI scene with a Man of the Match performance of 81 runs (97 balls) against the West Indies overnight, which included seven 4’s and one 6. Not only did Marsh win match honours he notched up the second-highest score by an Australian on debut in a one-day international. He fell 13 short of the highest debut ODI score by an Australian, set by another potential one-day opener, Phil Jaques. Both Marsh and Jaques are using the GRAY-NICOLLS NITRO range.

The Australian cricket team also used GRAY-NICOLLS pink batting grips to recognise the recent passing of Jane McGrath.

When Matthew Hayden makes his return to Test and ODI cricket it is likely that GRAY-NICOLLS will have the two opening batsmen for both forms, as well as the very marketable Andrew Symonds in the middle order and a promising Twenty20 opening batsman / wicket-keeper Luke Ronchi, who scored the most runs in the recent Twenty20 against the West Indies.

Matthew Hayden – FUSION 2
Andrew Symonds – VIPER (ODI & Tests), PREDATOR MAX (T20)
Shaun Marsh – NITRO
Phil Jaques – NITRO
Luke Ronchi – NITRO wicket keeping equipment and PREDATOR MAX batting equipment

Kookaburra have proudly announced that Ricky Ponting and Brad Haddin have recently re-signed their equipment contracts with Kookaburra through to the end of their cricket playing careers.

“It is a testament to the company and the product that Ricky and Brad have played their entire first class careers with Kookaburra, I am delighted to be associated with two such fine Australian players.”

Both players expressed their pleasure to be associated with such an old and well established family cricket company which plays such a vital role in the game of cricket world wide.

Ricky Ponting first signed with Kookaburra aged 13 and has used Kookaburra equipment for his entire career, a relationship which is rare in this day and age when players will stick with only one company. Ricky’s input has helped develop what is one of the finest ranges of cricket equipment available.

Brad Haddin first signed with Kookaburra aged just 14 and has also used our wicket keeping equipment for his entire career, following in the footsteps of previous Kookaburra sponsored wicket keepers, Rod Marsh and Ian Healy. Brad’s continued input into the development of the wicket keeping range will ensure that the best product is available for the cricketer at all levels.

All Kookaburra players will be decked out in new range of gear in West Indies, Ricky Ponting (captain), Mike Hussey, Brad Haddin, Simon Katich, Beau Casson, Mitchell Johnson and Brad Hodge.

In other news, Kookaburra is currently working on a Pink Ball potentially to be used professionally.

The idea of the pink ball was born out of Kookaburra's desire to support a local charity highlighting Breast Cancer, and as a result the company has tested and manufactured a range of pink balls to assess their usability.

FROM AERO
For the second year running our strippers have won 5 stars and best thigh pads in the pre-UK season Good Gear Guide.

“This is supremely comfortable and unlike most other thigh pads, it never moves as you play shots.”

We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Our new keeping products - the KPR face protector (3 stars) and the KPR leg protector (2 stars) - were also well reviewed.

“The facemask is a metal grille that covers only your face from chin to top of head - all the protection a keeper needs, leaving the back free to cool down.”

“This is the son of the extraordinary batting pad that Aero have produced for the last few years... and has the clever design details that remove the redundant parts of the pad.”

We have launched our brand new website with a heap of new features and complete coverage of all our equipment and our players … check it out at www.aerocricket.com

Woodworm exploded onto the scene in 2003 and its verve and excitement saw it hit new heights with Freddie Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen in 2005 and 2006 and continues to grow in popularity, with arguably some of the biggest names in cricket endorsing our brand in the international arena. The latest capture of Australian Brett Lee will again boost our profile even higher. We have updated our range for 2008 and feedback so far has been very positive. The patent cut-out edges remain on every bat as it is the trademark of Woodworm bats.

The ‘Hard Drive’ is promoted by prolific England batsman Kevin Pietersen. With totally new black stickers this year, which in fact looks very different to last year’s model. Hard Drive has a superb pick up with thick edges with powerful spine to provide ultimate ping.

‘Mega Drive’ is also new this year. It is the selected bat of Andrew Flintoff. The stickers are again, like the ‘Mega Drive’, very flashy and are in fact gold. Mega Bite has sweet spot slightly lower compared to the other Woodworm bat styles, with bowed blade and thick edges.

Lastly, there is the ‘Satellite’ selected by Brett Lee which has a flashy silver sticker. Again, it looks very appealing to the eye and would give you that cool factor when on the cricketing field. The bat shape itself is more the traditional shape with bowed blade, tick edges and wide sweet spot. The bats come in one of four ranges with Platinum at the top followed by Gold, Silver and Titanium. Junior bats are available in the Hard Drive and Satellite Range and come in a variety of different sizes for young cricketing fans. Woodworm Australia are leading the way in their soft goods range and have updated the protective gear to compliment the new bats cosmetics containing flashy black, silver & gold colours to provide the full story.

With Brett Lee on board we have created a NEW Brett Lee ball collection specially designed to aid both bowling and batting. Balls such as Brett Lee Speed Freak 2 pc leather ball suitable for all grades, Brett Lee- Binga Swinga Ball – 2 tone soft swing ball, Brett Lee -Jaffa Satellite 2 tone soft ball with great bounce. Also Brett Lee Can of Worms – 3 ball set to slowly introduce young cricketers to the hard leather ball will be some of the balls being launched in 2008.

Success is infectious when you play Woodworm. Brett Lee was awarded one of the highest accolades in cricket the ‘Allan Border Medal & Test Cricketer of the Year Award, whilst exciting Freddie Flintoff is close to representing England in the park again.

Exciting times ahead with the Ashes closing in on us and cricket being played at its best. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Woodworm to thank all Kingsgrove staff for their support of Woodworm. Wishing all cricketing fans and players a very infectious 2008/09 season.

Slazenger are very proud of the fact that their man, Michael Clarke, is officailly the new Aussie vice captain. Clarkey brought home the Pura Cup using the new V389 pictured above. This bat will be available for sale in August. Until then we still have a good number of the current version available for purchase.

FROM PUMA
PUMA will look to secure the services of a new rising star which will go along way to filling the void left by the ultimate Pumaniac - Adam Gilchrist who continued to shine in the Indian Premier League with his Puma equipment. Look out also for the new Puma compression garments now available at Kingsgrove

THE NIGHTWATCHMAN

Steve Abbott - aka the Sandman - is a qualified cricket umpire (lapsed) and his twenty-year old son Max (former student at Kingsgrove Cricket Academy) is an opening bowler with a smattering of 1st grade experience in the Sydney Grade Cricket competition. They will be using their spurious cricketing credibility to present this series about all matters cricket.

For instance, why does Brad Haddin brush his teeth four times during the course of a day's play? What type of car does Stuart MacGill drive and who teaches Beau Casson guitar?

No matter is too small for Max and Steve. They rate facilities at the various venues, chat with Australian cricketers past and present (as well as their partners, parents, brothers and sisters) about cricket, hygiene, quirks etc.

Their vision for this series? The Nightwatchmen will see you through that awkward period just before stumps.

DECEMBER / JANUARY Cricket Newsletter No. 7.1

A Message to you from Stuart MacGill

Hi everyone,

I would like to invite you to join me in a small fundraising activity that I have set up for my friends and I. I hope that you like the sound of it and get involved.

I am a huge fan of a charity called Books in Homes which raises money to provide students at participating schools 3 new books each per term. I have presented books to kids at a number of underprivileged schools now and the impact of this programme is astonishing. The majority of the students I have met are completely stunned when they realise that the books are theirs to keep.

The goal for us as a group is to sponsor the students at Lewisham Public School in Sydney's inner west, just one of the schools which lacks the funding to currently benefit from this programme. If you think you might like to be a part of this project, please visit the following myfundraiser page:

http://www.myfundraiser.com.au/charity/scg

The site is secure, and all funds will be automatically forwarded to Books in Homes Australia. Donations are tax deductible within Australia. If you have any good friends that you think may be interested please feel free to send them the link. Thanks

stuart

Brett Lee celebrates new deal with Woodworm with In-Store Appearance at Kingsgrove -
Click Image to view In-Store Flyer

Woodworm is pleased to announce today that Australian international cricketer, Brett Lee has signed an endorsement deal with the company to promote it’s products both on and off the field. Lee will spearhead Woodworm’s marketing activities in Australia through to and beyond the end of his international playing career. The deal will see the 30 year-old New South Wales player sport the range of Woodworm cricket equipment in addition to promoting Woodworm’s new line of golf apparel, alongside South African golfer Ernie Els and fellow cricket star Andrew Flintoff.

The player is excited to have put pen to paper, "I was first drawn to the Woodworm brand during the 2005 Ashes campaign when Freddie and KP really took it up to us with an aggressive and exciting style of cricket. Since then the brand has continued to develop into a major force in international cricket and I am really looking forward to being a part of this growth. Both Freddie and KP have told me just how successful Woodworm is in the UK and I am in no doubt that Aussies will take to the "worm" as much as the Poms." Joe Sillett, Founder of Woodworm is equally excited, “Brett has an X factor which cricket lovers around the world admire and respect. He plays the game hard, but he also plays it fair and most importantly, he does so with a smile on his face. We have shied away from signing an Australian player for a while now, waiting for somebody of Brett’s calibre to become available and believe that we have recruited the perfect brand ambassador.”

Sanjay Jain, Managing Director of Texas Peak, Woodworm’s distributor for Australia, South Africa and New Zealand added, “We are absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with Brett. Everyone knows in Australia how high a profile Brett has not just in this country but overseas as well. Brett will open up a lot of new channels for Woodworm products in Australia and we are all extremely excited about the future.”

Neil Maxwell, Brett Lee’s Business Manager concluded, “When we became aware of Woodworm’s interest in Brett, we looked at character fit and synergy – and if you look at what Woodworm is achieving and the players associated with it, it’s very clear that Brett fits the Woodworm portfolio perfectly.”
